What's AirTag Range?

AirTags don't have a specified range because they operate within Apple's Find My Network. This means that as long as an AirTag is within Bluetooth range of any iPhone (or other Apple device), it can connect passively with it and help you locate it. For instance, an AirTag could potentially be found hundreds of miles away if someone with an iPhone happens to pass nearby. However, if you lose an AirTag in a remote location where people are unlikely to pass by, such as the woods behind your house, locating it could take more time.

  • In an internal space without partitions the range is 65.6 ft (20 m)
  • Across one glass door and wood wall- 50 ft (15 m)
  • Three layers of wood (like wardrobe) - 20 ft (6 m)
  • Concrete wall - 10 ft (3 m)
  • Thick structure wall - 3.3 ft (1m)

Will AirTag work without the internet?

Apple Air Tag primarily uses Bluetooth to communicate with your phone. Therefore, you don't need an internet connection for the tag to work. However, because it uses the “Find My” app to locate your items, you'll need to turn on your internet connection for the best experience.
