Magic Keyboard with Touch ID: Setup and Troubleshooting

The wireless Magic Keyboard with Touch ID and Magic Keyboard with Touch ID and Numeric Keypad have built-in features that make it easy to enter emoji, switch keyboard languages, lock your Mac Studio, and perform many system functions with the touch of a key. You can also use a fingerprint to sign in and make purchases using Apple Pay.

So if you have an Intel Mac, sadly you’re out of luck. The keyboards will work with Intel Macs, but just as traditional Bluetooth keyboards without Touch ID support.

Setting Up Your Magic Keyboard with Touch ID

  1. Unbox and Turn On: Remove the Magic Keyboard from its packaging. It should come with a charge, but if needed, you can connect it to your Mac using the included Lightning to USB cable.
  2. Pair with Your Mac: Make sure Bluetooth is enabled on your Mac. The keyboard should automatically pair with your Mac. If it doesn't, go to Apple menu > System Preferences > Bluetooth and select the Magic Keyboard to pair.
  3. Enable Touch ID: If your Mac supports Touch ID, you can set it up in System Preferences. Go to Apple menu > System Preferences > Touch ID. Follow the on-screen instructions to add a fingerprint. You can add up to three fingerprints.

Troubleshooting Your Magic Keyboard with Touch ID

If you're having trouble with your Magic Keyboard, here are some steps you can take:

    1. Check Your Connection: Make sure your keyboard is charged and within Bluetooth range of your Mac (about 33 feet or 10 meters). If you're having trouble pairing, try turning Bluetooth off and back on.
    2. Reset Your Keyboard: If your keyboard isn't responding, you can reset it. Disconnect the keyboard from your Mac, then press and hold the power button on the keyboard for a few seconds until the LED starts blinking. Then reconnect the keyboard to your Mac.
    3. Check for Updates: Make sure your Mac is running the latest version of macOS. Go to Apple menu > System Preferences > Software Update to check for updates.
    4. Reset Touch ID: If you're having trouble with Touch ID, you can try removing and re-adding your fingerprints. Go to Apple menu > System Preferences > Touch ID. Click the minus (-) button to remove a fingerprint, then click the plus (+) button to add a new one.
